Perspectives needs 41 more fans to become first in popularity for the NEMation contest. So if you see this, go and register to support them!

Even though, according to Jean, the popularity contest is pretty pointless since it depends on the people you know. If you look at the "Why" sections for the fans of the teams, a lot of them are simply variations of "good friends lah".

Sigh.

Anyway, you can support them here.

What I Did Yesterday

Saturday, November 29, 2008 @ 3:59 pm.

Whispering Hearts Student Care Centre CIP , (time I woke up was 0700) 0920 - 1510 (time I actually arrived home was at 1730)

I went to Whispering Hearts Student Care Centre with Zhi Lin and Angelica to do some CIP.

Got into the MRT knowing that I was gonna be late (supposed to meet at 0845), and by the time I got there it was already 0900, but no one was there (Jelly was coming late), so I wandered around for a bitty waiting for Zhi Lin. Then after I found her we waited around for Jelly and Zhi Lin got stuff from Ya Kun while I fought down Milo-induced nausea. In the end we just went to the centre by ourselves. Jelly came a little later.

We're going to do some recycling arts projects, as well as help out and run around whenever they're not doing it and when we're still there. And even though I was prepared to write this long long post about it, I find I don't have really much more to say. But they are so adorable. (Plus, the group I've been rather informally assigned to (hee hee) presented me with a rabbit-like object that was supposed to be a robot, and we just started on a proper body for it. Trying to convince them that different colours for different sides may be pretty but not suitable for a robot is pretty hard.)

It's My Life, (time I left was about 1910?)1935 - 2220

So I got home, after a while I found myself motionless in a chair listening to my sister and not really talking, then I went to bathe, then eat dinner, and I was throwing on clothes in the few minutes before 1900 after sending a lot of capslock-ridden MSN messages to Pumbaa about not having anything nice to wear. First time I wore high heels in quite a while (and Rachew was panicking at first about me being taller than her until I pointed out the high heels, at which point she said "Thank God". Maybe I should have just avoided all the controversy and gone with something else... but it was the only thing that went with what I was wearing).

I thought the musical was incredible, and very poignant. I shall not say more, even though I so want to. You have to watch it.

Then we went on a brief backstage tour.

The musical left me feeling very moody. I was tickling (regarded as a form of torture in my family) my brother all the way back. Then my sister made me toast :)

Random Musings

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 @ 12:26 pm.

You know, whenever I imagine someone playing a long piano piece in my head, it's usually Baroque. Baroque music, where there tends to be two separate melodies played by two separate hands. I'm only grade five, but I've played Baroque pieces (very badly in the grade four exam. Grade five wasn't NEARLY as bad.), and I think they're really nice and sound very impressive. Hence the association with long. Which is also impressive.

They're drilling outside and I keep thinking it's my brother playing with a remote-control car or something.

I suddenly can't think of anything to do at all.

Okay.

@ 11:07 am.

After reading the class lists on LEAD (thanks, Claudia!), I'm just going to list some (obvious) things down

  1. 3G is a Bio class (everyone takes Bio)
  2. 3T is a Physics class (everyone takes Physics)
  3. 3G just might be a Lit class, since half takes Lit.
  4. 3T just might be an Elect. Lit class, since half takes Elect Lit.
  5. All nine classes from M to R are present.
  6. ...it seems so random despite all this.
  7. Argh.
Anyway, for my birthday yesterday, I got two red packets and a necklace.

More!

Tuesday, November 25, 2008 @ 10:52 pm.

7th position: Carolyn (SMS)
(My brother wished me Happy Birthday between these two but I could barely hear him so should I count him?)
8th position: Colette (SMS)
9th position: Charlotte (Cbox)
10th position: The people at the restaurant I just went to who gave me cake =D

Wishful Thinking (I mean, spread the holiday joy!)

@ 11:21 am.

STEP ONE
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ/blog. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

-You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

  1. I wish to be accepted.
  2. I wish to be comfortable around new people.
  3. I wish to grow taller ;D
  4. I wish that when I visit the gyn eventually, all my doubts etc. will be cleared and my problems in that area solved.
  5. I wish for (this one is in the back of my head) a Mac, but I love my laptop, even if its semicolon key's still broken =D
  6. I wish that my grandfather was well (vascular dementia, or Alzheimer's, or both right now) and back, or at least would want us to actually visit him. I am so worried about him.
  7. I wish my parents and grandparents could get along with each other.
  8. I wish to learn how to dance? I don't know.
  9. I wish for certainty in my decisions.
  10. I wish to be loved.

Continued

@ 11:18 am.

3rd position: My father
4th position: My mother
5th position: Annie
6th position: My grandmother

Uh... that's it.

The school website says 2009 class lists are on LEAD. Anyone knows where they actually are? I can't find it.

Happy Birthday Wishers

@ 12:45 am.

1st position: My sister
2nd position: Pumbaa!

Okay that's all for now.

Yeah.

Okay bye.

P.S. I collected my winner goodies!

Ehehehehe

Monday, November 24, 2008 @ 11:37 pm.

So my parents and my sister are dragging tables down to the second floor of the condo so they'll be collected (we're renovating), and since they've got me out of the way (I mean, I wouldn't mind helping, but there's not really much that I could do; one of the bittersweet, mostly bitter, things of being... me) I'm sitting here being nostalgic and playing Happyland and typing this blogpost.

22 minutes until NaNo validations start.

I have done it.

@ 7:13 pm.

Despite being at 41k yesterday, I've pulled off a marathon writing session and I am DONE.

50009 words.

Thank you everyone

Split

Sunday, November 23, 2008 @ 11:01 pm.

3G: 2, 4, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27

3T: 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 19, 21, 22, 28

I'm going to miss you all

And according to Zhi Lin (?), I'm register number 11.
Which is... weird. The only time I ever had a register number less than 12 was in P1, when I was register number 8. I was either register number 12 or 14 in P2.

My heart feels a little broken

Empty

Wednesday, November 19, 2008 @ 4:21 pm.

I just cleared out my table ^^

Not cleaned out. Cleared out.

Because on my birthday, renovations start. And that means new tables!
And cabinets! Whoo!

And I know the title sounds far too "emo" than it should... but it's relevant isn't it?

Okay, never mind.

Guess where this song is from!

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 @ 3:05 pm.

Don't be afraid to try something new
Don't stop yourself from being 'you'

If you can't do it this way,
then try another way
and keep on saying 'I can do'
Dare yourself to jump up high
take your feet off the
ground,and reach for the sky.

(Take) one step forward
don't look back
It won't take long till
you'll on that track
If you need a little help ,
then I'm here for you
keep on try and you'll get through

Just keep on try and you'll get through

Whatever's in your wildest dream
Whatever's in your heart of hearts

Let yourself dream it, let yourself try it
There's no way of stopping you
Just keep on saying 'I can do it'

and watch your dreams come true

Just keep on trying and you'll get through

I can do this,I can do that
Just watch me and see
I can do lots and lots and
lots of things
more than I ever believed

Just keep on trying and you'll get through

Guess in the Cbox if you want. It makes me feel so nostalgic =D

Food for Thought

@ 1:26 pm.

Taken from Claudia's blog, and adapted from Christie's before

Which hurts more?
1. Loving someone from the side. Meaning that that person you love could be a good friend of yours, or you could simply just be normal friends/acquaintances, whichever the case. However that person is unaware that you love him or her.
or
2. When two people love each other but they cannot be together for some reason. Which means that both of you love each other (the feeling is mutual). However due to some circumstance you cannot be together.

In my opinion, it would be option number two.

Because in option number two, both parties are equally anguished.
In option number one... it's just you.

And even though option number one seems to hurt more, it's actually not true, because you don't consider the other party.

Unless you're confident enough to say that he/she is hurt because he doesn't get to reciprocate your love.

But he wouldn't know that.

:O

Monday, November 17, 2008 @ 2:58 pm.

The scale below is an indication of where you fall in the male-female brain continuum. The results are based on the angles, spot the difference, 3D shapes and words tasks.

Bear in mind that your performance may be affected by many factors in addition to gender, like age and intelligence.

Your personal brain score:
Average score for MEN who've taken this survey:
Average score for WOMEN who've taken this survey:

If you are using a public PC we strongly advise you to print out and delete your results if you do not want anyone to see them. Your score for each task
back to top
Part 1

Angles

This task tested your ability to identify the angle of a line by matching it with its twin. This is a spatial task, which looks at how you picture space.

Your score: 13 out of 20
Average score for men: 15.1 out of 20
Average score for women: 13.3 out of 20

What does your result suggest?

If you scored 0 - 12: You have more of a female brain. Scientists believe that people with a female brain find it more difficult to judge the slope of a line because they're not wired for spatial tasks. In past studies, 65 per cent of people who scored in this range were women.

If you scored 13 - 17: You found this test neither hard nor easy. This suggests your brain has male and female traits when it comes to spatial ability.

If you scored 18 - 20: You have more of a male brain. On average, men outperform women in this task and those with more mathematical knowledge tend to score quite high as well. In past studies, 60 per cent of the people in this range were men.

Interestingly, men's testosterone levels fluctuate through the seasons and studies have shown that men's scores are lower in the spring, when their testosterone levels are at their lowest.

Do our cave dwelling ancestors offer us any clues about why men and women score differently on this task? Find out more.

Spot the difference

This task tested your ability to identify which objects changed position. You lost points, if you incorrectly identified objects.

Your score: 0%
Average score for men: 39%
Average score for women: 46%

What does your score suggest?

If you scored between 0 - 33%: You may have more of a male brain. Scientists say men tend to under perform in this task. The corpus callosum, the part of the brain that links the right and left hemispheres, is a fifth larger in women. This means women can process visual and other signals at the same time more easily than men. There is also a theory that oestrogen levels in women give them an added advantage in spatial memory.

If you scored between 34 - 66%: You may have a balanced female-male brain.

If you scored between 67 - 100%: Those with a female-type brain generally score in this range. Your ability to remember where objects are may serve as an advantage to you when you're trying to find your way around places. You're more capable of recalling landmarks to get from one place to another.

Find out more about our spatial abilities.

Part 2

Hands

You said your right thumb was on top when you clasped your hands together.

Right thumb on top: This suggests the left half of your brain is dominant. Many studies have tried to establish whether there is a relationship between handedness and brain dominance. Some scientists believe that if you are left brain dominant, you would be more verbal and analytical.

Left thumb on top: This suggests the right half of your brain is dominant. Some studies theorise that as a right brain dominant person, you may excel in visual, spatial and intuitive processes.

However, these theories are debatable and leave much to be said about the small percentage of people who are ambidextrous.

Find out why right-brained people may be better fighters and artists.

Part 3

Emotions and Systems

This task looked at whether you prefer to empathise or systemise.

Empathising

Your empathy score is: 11 out of 20
Average score for men: 7.9 out of 20
Average score for women: 10.6 out of 20

What does your result suggest?

Empathisers are better at accurately judging other people's emotions and responding appropriately. If you scored 15 and above, you are very empathic and would be an ideal person to comfort people in a time of crisis. Women in general are better at empathising.

Systemising

Your systemising score is: 7 out of 20
Average score for men: 12.5 out of 20
Average score for women: 8.0 out of 20

What does your result suggest?

Systemisers prefer to investigate how systems work. A system can be a road map, flat pack furniture, or a mathematical equation – anything that follows a set of rules. A score of 15 and above suggests you're good at analysing or building systems. Men in general are better at systemising.

Scientists are keen to learn more about people who score high or low on both tests. They want to find out whether or not empathising and systemising are linked. Is a possible to make yourself more empathic?

Some scientists claim that our empathy and systemising abilities can be traced all the way back to prehistoric times. Find out more.

Eyes

This task tested your ability to judge people's emotions.

Your score: 8 out of 10
Average score for men: 6.6 out of 10
Average score for women: 6.6 out of 10

What does your result suggest?

If you scored 0 - 3: Do you think you're good at judging how another person is feeling? Your score suggests this doesn't come to you quite so naturally.

If you scored 4 - 6: Your result suggests you have a balanced female-male brain and find it neither easy nor difficult to judge people's emotions.

If you scored 7 - 10: Your result suggests you are a good empathiser, sensitive to other people's emotions. Women generally fall into this category.

Professor Baron-Cohen at the University of Cambridge says that people usually perform better than they expect to on this test.

Men often think a person's eyes are sending signals of desire when that's not the case at all. Find out more.

Part 4

Fingers

We asked you to measure your ring and index fingers. Your ratios came to:

Right Hand: 0.98
Left Hand: 1.03

Average ratio for men: 0.982
Average ratio for women: 0.991

It's thought that your ratio is governed by the amount of testosterone you were exposed to in your mother's womb. The ratio of the length of your index finger to the length of your ring finger is set for life by as early as three months after conception. Even during puberty, when we experience intensive hormonal changes, the ratio stays the same.

Men generally have a ring finger that is longer than their index finger, which gives them a lower ratio than women, whose ring and index fingers are usually of equal length.

Studies have found that men and women with lots of brothers generally have more masculine finger ratios. Find out what other things scientists think our ratios may tell us.

Part 5

Faces

This task looked at how you rate the attractiveness of a series of faces. The images you looked at were digitally altered to create slight differences in masculinity.

Your choices suggest you prefer more masculine faces.

Highly masculinised male faces possess more extreme testosterone markers such as a long, broad and lower jaw, as well as more pronounced brow ridges and cheekbones.

Interestingly, women's preferences are said to vary across the menstrual phase. A more masculine face is preferred during the 9 days prior to ovulation, when conception is most likely.

A typical 'attractive' female face possesses features such as a shorter, narrower, lower jaw, fuller lips and larger eyes than an average face.

Are you surprised at what researchers think they can learn from your answers? Find out more.

Part 6

3D shapes

This task tested your ability to mentally rotate 3D shapes.

Your score: 11 out of 12
Average score for men: 8.2 out of 12
Average score for women: 7.1 out of 12

What does your result suggest?

If you scored 0 - 6: Do you find yourself having to physically rotate a map to point in the direction in which you're travelling? This might explain why you scored in the lower range in the 3D shapes test. Twice as many women as men score in this category. Previous studies suggest that those with a female-type brain or with an arts background fall into this range.

If you scored 7 - 9: In past studies, 50 per cent of the people who scored in this range were women and 50 per cent were men.

If you scored 10 - 12: Are you an engineer or do you have a science background? People with these skills tend to score in this range. Past studies have concluded that people in this range have a more male brain.

Nearly a third of men who took this test got full marks, whereas less than 10 per cent of women managed the same. Find out why.

Words

This task looked at your verbal fluency.

Your score: you associated 31 word(s) with grey and you named 12 word(s) that mean happy. We are assuming that all the words you entered are correct.

Average score for men: 11.4 words total
Average score for women: 12.4 words total

What does your result suggest?

If you produced 1 - 5 words: You are more of the strong, silent type with a male brain. You probably find it easier to express yourself in non-verbal ways, preferring action rather than words.

If you produced 6 - 10 words: Most people in this range have a female-type brain.

Women are said to use both sides of the brain when doing verbal tasks while men mainly use their left side. Studies have shown that girls develop vocabulary faster than boys. This difference in brain power is caused by levels of pre-natal testosterone. Find out more .

Ultimatum

This task asked you how you would divide money.

If you had to split £50 with someone, you said you would demand £25

So far on the Sex ID test, men have demanded 51.6% (£25.80) of the pot and women have demanded 51.0% (£25.50), on average.

What does your response suggest?

Sex differences are small in this task. Demanding less than 60% of the pot (ie £30) is more typically female. Demanding more than 65% of the pot (ie £32.50) is more typically male.

Scientists believe that people with lower testosterone levels tend to take fewer risks so they are probably more willing to keep less for themselves. Those with higher testosterone levels tend to drive a harder bargain and are less compromising.

Men's testosterone levels fluctuate over the seasons and are at their lowest levels during the springtime. This is said to influence their bargaining power. Find out more about the role of testosterone.

I can't believe it.

Sunday, November 16, 2008 @ 11:59 pm.

My colon/semicolon key just dropped off.

DROPPED OFF.

I can still type : and ; , but when the plastic thing's on the little pushy button at the bottom, it takes a long time and a lot of pressure to type. And the plastic thing falls off again and gets stuck under the adjacent keys.

Which means I have to go to the Acer service centre.

Happy:

Saturday, November 15, 2008 @ 9:35 pm.

Happy Birthday

To Michael, my brother.
To Jean, my classmate '08.
To Keppel Club (technically an anniversary, but close enough), a country club that's nearby, and a club I go to to hit some golf balls and to eat.

Happy Welcome Back

To Rachel, my sister.

Happy Half-November

To all NaNoers.

Happy Day

To everyone.

Typing Test

I have done it.

Wednesday, November 12, 2008 @ 11:08 pm.

3.5 k. 2 hours.

And now, I am officially halfway through my novel.

With two words to spare.

Whoo!

Itch

Sunday, November 09, 2008 @ 8:47 pm.

I shouldn't have worn those clothes to church today. Now my shoulders and the inner parts of my legs are itching.

Anyway, I'm still at 17k.

8k, 3 days.
[as in, I want to finish by the 25th of November, and to do that I should hit 25k by the end of the 12th of November (technically that would mean finishing by the 24th of November, but I know nobody I know that lives in the same house as I do is going to let me sit in my room tapping away at my laptop during my birthday]
-pauses to engrave it into my memory-

Oh yeah

6 more days until my sister comes back
I'm missing her far too much. So much that I'm pissing everyone off ^^

Afraid

Friday, November 07, 2008 @ 11:03 am.

My father said to me, "You are the world's longest bye-er."

I think that's because I'm afraid that that goodbye might be the last.

This has started rather late, but

@ 10:31 am.

Eighteen days until my birthday.

Fall

Thursday, November 06, 2008 @ 11:15 pm.

I've been watching the Cats 1998 video recently, and the Memory-Gus the Theatre Cat section makes me want to cry.

When Gus enters while the Cats sing Memory... well, it's poignant.

He might have come to terms with his... decline in his career, but it's still very sad.

No matter how high one rises, one falls in the end.

Errgh

@ 12:21 pm.

Start of the sixth day of NaNo.

Technically, start of the second half of the sixth day of NaNo, but I only just woke up.

Nausea usually gets worse by night, and I had gastric last night due to all of us trundling off to the airport to bid my sister goodbye and we got home at about midnight. Then I refused to sleep (that was stupid, but I know) because I wanted to SMS my sister before she left (at twelve thirty), and I did, so I ended up going to sleep anyway.

And so I woke up really late today, and I haven't done any writing today at all.

11656 words.

I know that's at least 3000 words ahead of schedule, but two of my writing buddies have already passed the 25k mark.

I'm trying to decide on good music to write to. I've been using, among other things:

Maroon 5
High School Musical 3
Cats (The musical, not the caterwauling)
The sound of the rain (the most effective, but unfortunately there is no rain now)

At times like these I ask myself: Don't I have any decent music?!

I mean, I have Michael Buble, Hairspray soundtrack, ABBA, various collection CDs, Emi Fujita, Dave Thrush (you probably haven't heard of him), my sister's DBSK CDs...

But still nothing suitable.

I know what I need. I need a steady beat with minimal lyrics (but this can be negotiable). But where am I going to get that?

EDIT: Grabbed Speed Racer and stuffed it into the CD drive (of course I took out the Maroon 5 CD first) to play in the background. It's got lyrics, of course, and plenty of dialogue, but it will do. I just need some sort of sound. It's too quiet. I keep thinking of my sister.

EDIT: Thanks Colette for the recommendation =D

Farewell.

Wednesday, November 05, 2008 @ 8:01 pm.

My sister is going to Japan for ten days.
6th to 15th November.
I'm going to miss you so much.

Um

Sunday, November 02, 2008 @ 11:52 am.

Yeah, I apologise that I haven't been updating on anything relevant >.>

(although I do have 3739 words for NaNo now)

...but this is something I want to say first.

When I took the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator test, I was an INFP.
And when the trainer was explaining, I thought it was very accurate.
But this one , I admit, is completely wrong.
Except this part:

Extraverted iNtuition

Extraverted intuition faces outward, greeting the world on behalf of Feeling. What the observer usually sees is creativity with implied good will. Intuition spawns this type's philosophical bent and strengthens pattern perception. It combines as auxiliary with introverted Feeling and gives rise to unusual skill in both character development and fluency with language--a sound basis for the development of literary facility. If INTPs aspire to word mechanics, INFPs would be verbal artists.

The trainer also said that INFPs are very vengeful; if you really really annoy them, they will hunt you down and kill you.
Hehe.
More later.

NaNo has started.
