I am in deep ______.

Friday, February 27, 2009 @ 9:13 pm.

I hate inconveniencing people.

However, now I'm stuck in a hot bed which was basically caused by a mix of inspiration, slight procrastination, miscommunication and general underestimation.

It will end, however, by at least ten thirty tonight, because that's when I'm submitting my mentorship stuff.

Semi-Darkness

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 @ 9:57 pm.

My sister (Sec 4) decided to go to sleep at nine forty-five today, even though she has the same papers as I do tomorrow, and as far as I know she's only studied a little A Maths. Well, I think. I'm not good at knowing, as I have found out.

So now she's sleeping and I'm still at the laptop staring at concept maps for SS and trying to get A Math concepts and being thoroughly disheartened looking at expository and SW and E Math and Physics and DRAMA left to do on Wednesday and I think I'm going to die.

I was doing SS and A Maths all day today. I can't even do anything from tomorrow today.

Sec 3 might just be the death of me.

Oh no oh no oh no. I might just do SW now. Because I can't do expository anyway not without a peer evaluation.

I don't have anyone to do peer evaluation.

[maps out timeline]
Come home from drama at about 5.30 to 6 pm, take a bath, eat dinner, should finish at 7 pm
1/2 hr: Expository, finish at 7.30
1.5 hr: SW, finish at 9.00
1 hr: E Maths, finish at 10
1 hr: Physics, finish at 11

Will it fall apart?
I don't know.

Hahahahahah AHAHAHAHahaHah AHahAHAHAHahA HaHAH AHAHAhaha ha

Monday, February 23, 2009 @ 4:25 pm.

My Polynomials worksheet might have disappeared mysteriously with the wind, and I'm being plagued by mosquitoes, flying ants, sore throats and all the petty things that can make someone really irritated,

BUT HEATH LEDGER HAS WON THE BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR AWARD!!!!!
AHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHHAHAAA

He rocks.

A Question.

Sunday, February 22, 2009 @ 12:33 pm.

Happiness is harder to achieve than sadness. How far do you agree? EYA. (12 m)

To a great extent.

Order is generally harder to achieve than disorder. This is because disorder is easier to define, and requires less care and precision, and time. Imagine building a castle out of blocks versus kicking it down. When you kick a castle down, you don't care whether the red block lands to the right of the yellow block, or that the blocks end up splayed forwards or backwards or in the shape of a flower.

If order makes one happy, and disorder makes one unhappy, it can therefore be assumed that it's easier to make one unhappy than sad.

Unless, of course, one revels in chaos.

Ignorance is Bliss

Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 10:44 pm.

I don't think you all were particularly amused with the random things about ourselves that we're supposed to say in class.

I just said rubbish, like The Dark Knight (WHICH IS THE BEST) and my bad pet karma (and my sister's getting fighting fish, for her art project).

If any teachers ask us to do it again, I'll be saying this.

When I was in Primary Three, my mother brought me to the doctor because I was complaining about urinating too much. The doctor took a urine sample and I remember him testing it in something that looked like a sink. Then, he told my mother that there was a lot of protein in my urine.

I thought nothing of it. I went home and happily told my father that there was protein in my urine but that was it. He prayed. I didn't know why.

Well, the next day I took another urine sample, and the doctor sent it to the lab. It was clean.

I never found out the significance of that until I was in Sec. One, or Sec Two.

My dad asked if I remembered the incident, and I said I didn't really.

As it turns out, the protein in the urine was supposed to indicate kidney failure, or something like that.

So that means I was diagnosed with possible kidney failure when I was nine, and I just skipped along home without a care in the world. I didn't even care that the sample came back clean.

Thank God, huh.

It's a good thing I didn't know.

I think.

Feathery

@ 10:13 pm.

Before School
Skipped Drama warmups (my first time) to rush A Maths. As it turns out, only Carolyn and En showed up.

PE
Ran two rounds. Then ran three rounds. Again, took about five and a half minutes to do so. Mrs Chan says that if we keep this up every week, should be able to do 2.4 km. I hope so.

Tennis. I returned a ball once or twice, but other than that I'm not good at it. Maybe I'll appeal to take volleyball again the next time.

Claire: [I guess] some people just accept being lonely.
Me: Doesn't mean that they like it.

A. Math
Learnt the alpha and beta root thing. It's pretty cool. I found it pretty easy, too. Mrs Loh said it was good that I got the answer =D. Come to think of it, I might as well do the rest of the examples now =)

I use too many smiley face things.

Full Lit.
Wondered about what Mrs Ng said, about a child's IQ being fixed at six years of age, and the only reason school helped was to socialise. But I don't know about that. If you're highly intelligent but you don't know squat then you're not going to be able to apply your intelligence. More so, if you don't have a job or anything.

I am not average, whether that's in a good way or in a bad way. Whether I'm Mrs Ng's kind of not-average is another thing altogether.

Recess
Stayed in to do A. Math, then found out Bio was due, then found out SS was due. So I did them all, except for a little bit of A. Math which I sneaked in during Bio.

Biology
Finished Diffusion and Active Transport. I quite liked the lesson, despite being preoccupied. Ms Lau is a good teacher.

SS
SBQ. Unfortunately I was a little bit bored, because the answers seemed mapped out in the workbook already even though, well, there were other ones.

Assembly.
Uh. No comment.

Lunch
The fish and chips today looked pathetic. The fish was long and thin and really did look like (leptodactylous) fingers. The fries were good.

Went to the Audi with Carolyn and En first, and Carolyn was playing on the piano. Listening to her play makes me feel very inferior... she is so good. The people wandering in were all badgering her to restart.

Drama
The only thing I need to say here is The Return of the Hundreds.

Actually I'll say more things.
I saw the leotards today. Somehow the sleeves seem short. But never mind. There's always black body paint. Half of me wishes that I wasn't acting, but the other half of me knows that I wouldn't be able to do backstage. I'm too irresponsible.

After drama, did E Math in the canteen with En, Zenn, Carolyn (who left), and Jean, and later Lau and Zhi Lin.

Jean's hair is so feathery!

Volatile

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 9:57 pm.

Chemistry
Disappointment. I didn't get a single pop, and as soon as I finished the experiment the entire liquid thing started bubbling and shaking. Scary. Tabitha said that somehow the liquid in my flask had increased... I don't know why. Mr Loh couldn't get the stopper out of my flask... so embarrassing! I don't think Ms Yang likes me at all.

Clearly I'm not going to be a scientist.

Higher Chinese

Went through most of the text.

Add. Math

Got the test back. I didn't do as badly as I expected to do; 13/20. Or actually, it was bad. But it's a pass. So never mind. It's all careless. Except the first one. Sigh. Never mind. My sentences are too short.

Recess

I actually got to go downstairs and eat today. I ate an icecream, roti prata with sugar, and LB Special Vitagen. Yay!

English

Mrs Chitra forgot the Debate marks again, but we had a summary test. I finished early, and was nearly falling asleep during the last few minutes. I think I had a dream and I went to look over at someone's table, and I jerked in my sleep (propped up on one elbow) and then I woke up. It was pretty disturbing.

She then passed me this news, in case you lot don't know:

ALL DRAMA SYF GIRLS
SYF PERFORMANCE WILL BE ON THE THIRD OF APRIL, AT ACJC.
THANK YOU.

D:
Physics

Did the questions today. I completely forgot about the Total Internal Reflection criteria! Oh dear. I have no idea why.

Elect. History

Found out, once again, that there is NO TEST on Friday. It's going to be in the CT.
According to Mrs Ng, Elect. History hasn't done much, so why bother testing so many times?

I agree.

After School:

Went down to the canteen in time to eat some of Pumbaa's birthday cake.

[nothing interesting past this point]

Incorrigible

Monday, February 16, 2009 @ 9:50 pm.

Before School/Chapel
Had to see a teacher again so after some of us (Marcella, Celeste, En Qi, and maybe one more person, I forgot. Sorry!!) went down for drama warmups I went to see and then went upstairs for Chapel. I thought Mr Joseph Lim's (Uncle Joe for those who have had chapel band experience!) message was good. Felt incomplete, though. Maybe because of time.

Bio
I will never use methylene blue solution for plant cells. It doesn't seem to like me much. I couldn't see a thing, and it wouldn't stain; the onion epidermis was completely white except for the edges and I could see nothing but cell wall among all the air bubble things. Ms Lau found one plasmolysed cell though, and that was pretty cool.

Lit
I'm very happy with myself because I said something today =/ Most of the time I have some clue to what the answer might be and I don't say anything... and sometimes I don't. And most of the time, I just can't take the chance.

Recess
Did zhou ji

HCL
Uh, usual. Nothing much.

Social Studies
No lecture, which was a little bit of a shame, but we did SBQ, which is perfect, if you ask me, for a 40 minute lesson. Not too much.

Physics
I got 16/22, which is just missing an A1. The only reason why I'm sad is because I didn't add the triangle for my graph and that's what cost me the A1.

HCL
Uh, yeah.

I'm tired.

Thanks for the Mars bars and Hershey Mallow Blast =D

Overheat

Sunday, February 15, 2009 @ 1:07 pm.

[since I lost the half-post I typed last night, I'm only going to start from 1 pm on Friday]

1 pm
Stomached half of a tuna croissant for lunch, then carried everything over to the bamboo courtyard. One of the frames had broken earlier, so I had to call my mother and ask if she could get another one.

2 pm
Realised that Dr Tan was coming at about 3 pm (or was it 2.3o?) so we were all rushing to get things done. Set up the projector with help, then slowly got the timer up to 24 h.

3.50 pm
Gallivanted around till I came back and realised that the computer had shut itself down. Got the timer back up to 24 h and started it on time.

4.05 pm
The computer shut itself down again.

4.09 pm
Got the timer up to 23 hrs 51 minutes.

4.10 pm
Shut itself down again.

4.30 pm
After having a conversation with my father over the phone, with a lot of shouting over the blaring music, decided to give up on the timer and put together a powerpoint in the meantime.

Changed the projector.

5 pm
Thought for 5 pm: Why are manholes round and not square?

5.30 pm
Thought for 5.30 pm: This powerpoint loops every 100 seconds. I wonder how many that makes in 24 hours.

Secured the wire to the floor with masking tape after advice from a caring visitor.
6 pm
Thought for 6 pm: Now it loops every two minutes. That makes 30 times per hour, and that [in turn] makes 720 times an hour. (Miss Su walked by and said, "Really?")

Rachew came! I was the first to see her, but had to go off after to meet my dad who came to fix the timer/bring another laptop in case that didn't work.

6.30 pm
Thought for 6.30 pm: Do you sleep with your chin over or under your blanket? (Someone walked by and said "Over!" to someone.)

Rachew provided an answer for the manhole thing: You can't drop the lid down the hole when it's circular.

The timer worked!

7 pm

Changed the projector.

7.30 pm thereabouts

The computer shut itself down again. Called father. He decided that it was overheating, and I realised that the laptop was sitting on its laptop case thing. Took it out.

8 pm
Had a bath.

9.30 pm

Changed the projector.

10 pm

Didn't do much. Paced around the computer, torn between worrying about it being stolen and the fact (emphasised by many) that I need to walk around. Parents came with another frame and my LapCool, which I foolishly left at home.

10.30 pm
Got into a conversation with Sheralyn, Monica and Monica's friend from French; it was quite entertaining.

12 mn
Changed the projector.

1 am - 2 am thereabouts

Saw some girls who had set up their hangout at the song dedication booth, which had stopped playing songs as not to disturb the surrounding condominiums, and they had hooked up their iPod to speakers and were playing their own music while eating and things.

Went to the sports complex with En, Lau, Eleanor, Audrey, Zenn etc. Eleanor wanted to find out if she could sleep in the practice room, but decided not to.

Jean and co. started playing basketball, so the rest of us went to the other side to shoot. Personally, I think netball is somewhat easier than basketball, because you have to hit the backboard most times and figure out what angle and strength to use to get it to bounce off the backboard and into the basket. For netball, you just throw up and have to make it come down into the basket. I think I got a ball in for the netball one, which is saying a lot.

Went to check on the timer, then went back with En and Lau (hiding from potential cart-rider searchers) to play cards at the sports complex. Tried tai ti, then gave up and started playing Speed instead. Obviously I was very slow, partly because I was sleepy. The only time I won a round was when everyone was stuck, and I was in a position where I could view all my cards as one hand (as in more than one card with the same number is counted as one card in a hand), and could slap them all down in order on the pile and then go for the pile with three cards. Heh.

2.30 am

Changed the projector.

3 am to 3.45 am

Went to sleep.

3.45 am - 4 am

Woke up, but inadvertently fell asleep everywhere I sat down so in the end I followed Izati's advice and went to sleep in the sports complex.

4.45 am
Woke up again, and hung around for a while.

5 am
Changed the projector.

5.15 am

Discovered that Yun Hua had made it to the event and was searching for cart-riders, so since there was really absolutely no one around and Celeste was the only one doing it (aside from one more person who came later), I went.

6 am
Dr Tan took a break, so I took a break too. Sat at the registration booth and made springs out of long strips of paper.

7 am
Ate a brownie.

7.30 am
Changed the projector.

8 am
Beginning of rest period. Went to sit on the cart again.

9 am
Still there, alternately sitting on the cart.

Only two people joined the Primary art competition.

10 am

Changed the projector.
Went to do F&B, but since there was barely anyone selling food, I just walked around. Some art students streamed in to do the Secondary Art competition.

11 am

Went to sit with Audrey at the brownie stall. Parents came again with siblings. Had spaghetti. My brother found the Coke stall and gave me the rest of his.

12.30 pm
Changed the projector before going to do the cart again. Realised that the timing was really off, so found Miss Su to check the official timing and set it back.

1 pm
Bought an icecream, and waited around for the ALOUD! finalists to come.

1.30 pm
Listened to them perform. Continued to sit at the brownie stall. No one bought any brownies.

2.30 pm
Changed the projector. The timer had somehow slowed down by a minute.

Jacklyn was trying to eat a brownie, while Li Cheng was collecting all the scrapings at the bottom into a little brownie and eating it.

3 pm
One hour left. Got nervous, and Miss Su came along, and timed it down to the last second.

Cleaned out the fridges of the drinks and put the brownies in. Everyone was clearing up.

3.30 pm
Went down to the track to prepare for the final laps. Everyone in Duplo (plus maybe one more) was given a big popper, while others got the small ones. I had an orange one, the medium-big one.

3.45 pm

Charlotte was going around asking people whether she could pop the popper while we were all asking each other how to work the thing.

3.55 pm
Last two laps. GOHs came.

4 pm
Most of the poppers popped when Dr Tan crossed the finish line. It was pretty cool, with all the confetti raining down.

4.15 pm
After all the speeches and all, we all picked up the confetti. Most of it.

Packed up laptop.

4.30 pm
Brought benches back to the canteen. Found everyone dividing left over spaghetti into clingwrap and plastic bags. Brought dripping bags of garbage to the disposal outside school. Walked back deliberately slow.

5.20 pm
Packed up and left.

6 pm
Got home and collapsed on the sofa while my brother watched Phineas and Ferb.

7 pm
Had dinner.

7.30 pm
Took a bath.

10.30 pm
Went to sleep.

Despair

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 @ 9:35 pm.

Chemistry

Nearly burnt my thumb while trying to dry a test tube; otherwise everything went relatively okay. Somehow we're doing the same things all over again.

Chinese

Blanked out at 3B30; I just filled in everything I could think of but still left so many blanks and so many absolutely wrong. The hanyupinyin ones, of course, are probably okay.

Add Math

Partial fractions. I was wondering why you needed to add another B/(x-a) to the partial fractions for repeated linear factors, but I realised that even though B might be a zero, you have to leave the chance for it to be something else.

Recess

Bought a new pen!

English

Spent time cutting up yellow vanguard sheets. I did it really really badly. I didn't have a long ruler or a penknife or anything of the sort, so I had to fold up the paper from 8cm mark to 8cm mark and even that didn't turn out very well, especially since I had nowhere else to work except the floor.

Physics

I ______ __________ _______ suck.

E Math

[see Physics]

Elective History

Clearly I was stressed out by this point, and besides, what I was going to say was completely off from what the correct answer was.

Lunch

FOUND OUT THAT ROTI PRATA IS ON SALE AT THE MALAY STORE!

LTC Meeting

We did layout, and posters, and song lists. Does anyone have the HSM 3 soundtrack CD? Some people may come for that, hee.

--

What is wrong with me?

Why do I always mess everything up?

It's my fault.

Lost Time

@ 4:50 pm.

Before Assembly/Chapel:

Went to see Mrs Chew at the General Office after drama warmups (where only FIVE PEOPLE SHOWED UP; seriously people D< We're not just doing pushing any more), thinking I was alone but in the end some other people were there which was sort of a comfort, because idling around in the general office while everyone is rushing for assembly is... a bit weird. Anyway, after that I went up to the Gallery and sat through the rest of Chapel. I really love the story of Queen Esther.

Bio:

Experiment 6 and 10. I spilled sucrose all over the bench, so I had to go for Lit later with the rag all wet and had to hang it on the back of my chair. There were three breakages all at the same time; I was cradling my boiling tube with both hands when I went to return it. (There were three boiling tubes, but Yun Hua and I were washing and somehow one just got missed or something. I can't remember.)

(And speaking of Bio, after three days I think Eleanor's fungus has nearly doubled in size!)
Lit:

I don't know if making the lessons a little toned down is going to do more harm or more benefit to the class. I mean, if we're not used to it it's okay, but if somehow we're perfectly capable of doing it, then wouldn't it be almost cowardly to escape from it?

Recess:

Went to buy test tubes, then went up to class and sorted out some things.

Me: [flipping through health booklet] Hey, I think I grew 8 cm since last year...
Siti: How do people grow 8 cm when I only grew 2 cm?...

I guess it's making up for lost time.

Chinese:

I don't think the lessons are boring; it's just that personally it's hard to follow or I somehow automatically switch off, but during the parts where I do follow, it's interesting.

SS:

Ageing population. I don't know whether the cause of 3T's student-Mr Seow relationship is Mr Seow, or the students. Somehow, Social Studies is a mix of common sense, common knowledge and common behaviour. It's not even close to History, or even "mini" History. Except for the SBQ and SEQ.

Physics:

Looks like no one's going to get over relating me to refraction any time soon. We cleared out the practicals today, although I need to ponder the mirage thing before I get it down right.

More Chinese:

Eh, more of the same. Rushed off after class only to realise later that I left my Chinese textbooks under my desk. I do have the flash card thingies, though.

Breaking Houses

Saturday, February 07, 2009 @ 12:33 pm.

What Happened on Friday

Before School
I went to call Ms Yang about what we were supposed to bring for Chemistry, and by the time I got to the Bamboo Courtyard everyone was just sitting around so I supposed that warmups were finished.

Elective History

Talked about The Big Three (in reference to WWI): Georges Clemenceau, Woodrow Wilson and Lloyd George. It was quite interesting, especially since Wilson thought Germany should be given some slack because USA didn't suffer at all, and that Vittorio Orlando got kicked out of the Big Four.

E Math

Too busy thinking about debate to remember what we did, but we were trying to derive the quadratic formula.

English

Debate. Was nervous; we only had two days of preparation and my speech was about half a page long while Eleanor's handwritten one took up the entire page. So I was asking the group for more examples:

Me: Did Breaking Dawn have any ________ scenes? (censored for the filter)
Audrey: Eh, not really.
Eleanor (I think): They didn't really describe it.
Me: Oh.
Eleanor: But I think there was this part where Emmett and Rosalie said they broke houses while engaging in __________ ___________...
[everyone bursts into silent laughter]
Me: Great! If I have time I can mention that...
[later]
Me: It's still so amusing.

Eleanor had a petri dish of cultivating plants from her Bio project which got contaminated, and there was this blue fungi thing that looked like it had been stuck on... it was so cute!

We were all pretty sure beforehand that Opposition would have more... rational points, because what reasons would their be for [our stand] that couldn't be easily rebutted? But I guess we got through it okay; we all managed to JUST finish... heh.

Recess
Sat with Felicia, Christie, Tabitha, Lau etc. eating and studying for Chem.

Chem
I had a mini-mad rush looking for Experiment 3.2, but in the end I got 80% percentage purity, which is apparently way off, but not too way off.

Add Math
I like A. Math. I'm really careless, though. More of the same and more of different things; another lesson I don't really remember for some reason.

GEL

Pow-wow led by Mrs Ng.

My parents told me in Primary school that the friends I actually would keep in touch with were those I made in Secondary school. Now they're telling me that the friends I actually would keep in touch with are those I make in JC. Maybe they'll tell me soon that the friends I keep in touch with will be those I make in University, or at work.

Or maybe in the end, they're trying to say that friends don't matter. My mother always tells us how she was a straight-A prefect at Raffles Girls' School with no friends.

I don't believe them.

Drama

Today was pretty fun, listening to Ms Suneeta move people around based on their groups. Marcella came with her wired hair; it was half cute and half suitable, really. From far away, I think it'll be good.

Self-confidence does not exist.
I just think it's a matter of whether you give a d*** or not.

I notice that some people are leaving the group.

And the only reason why I noticed is that (some of) the people are close to me. As in, their names aren't in the members list, and there are less members than yesterday.

Thanks.

And I don't even know if that's appropriate.

Nadal won the Australian Open.

I was hoping that Federer would win.

I think I know why I so want Federer to beat Nadal.

I just don't want things to change from the way I knew them.

And by the way

@ 5:08 pm.

It's not because someone wants to be derogatory that they use the term mainstream.

The school uses the term mainstream.

Look at your Common Test list. It says: "Sec 3 MS/SBC"

MS. Mainstream.

And also notice that it doesn't say "MS/PIG".

Which I have no choice but to understand as People in Gifted.

Notice that the term Mainstream is not paired with any other derogatory terms, but with the OFFICIAL name of the SBC, which is SBC.

And SBC is not GEP, or even IP. We're still in Express. It's an individual curriculum.

Thanks.
