Update

Thursday, February 18, 2010 @ 4:57 pm.

Right, I finally updated the link list on the side. I also added the blog titles (and if there was no title, a random quote) from the blogs and listed them on the side. I feel like I haven't been paying enough attention to my links. I have a lot of 'dead' links there but I can't bear to get rid of them. So I just made it over a little.

Legacy

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 @ 11:15 pm.

I haven't done an anecdote/recount in a while, and even so today wasn't much to talk about, but I want to post about drama before I forget about it xP

Anyway, today we were having auditions for Drama Night cast. We don't really have a script yet but a basic list of characters in a mental asylum that we can play around with. So the Sec 2s and 3s (Sec 1s do foundational skills this year, and Sec 4s can't act) formed pairs, chose their characters and improvised. After that, Miss Grace (our new Drama coach) would Hot Seat them (ask questions about characters).

The Sec 4s, being 'helpers' this year, were given the task of someone going up during the middle of the improvised scene and doing something random so that they would have to improvise on the spot.

Me: "So, we can just go up there and mess it up?"
Miss Grace: "Yes, really mess it up."

And did we mess it up. This is a list of some of the things we did during the audition:

1) First one, with Denise, Uma and Miriam. Jelly hops up on the stage and starts complaining about their acting and their character and just the way they are talking and walking around.

Jelly: You must be more expressive with your hands, like this! [spreads arms out]
Uma: O-kay! [spreads arms out]

2) Shreya (sp?), the OCD (cleanliness-compulsion) patient who goes around cleaning things, and Beverly, the nurse who has a crush on the (male) patient. I unceremoniously flop into Shreya's circle of sanitation (xD) and whine incessantly about being hungry. Bev and Shreya did really well with it.

3) Marcella and Sheryl. The two of them are perfect foils off each other. Marcella is a serious actress; Sheryl is the complete and utter opposite. She had the whole auditorium in an uproar. Diana went up and tried to get them to take their pills which only served to enhance the performance.

[from here, I skip a few every now and then]
4) During one audition with a patient paranoid about aliens, Sanaa came up as an alien xD. They kinda blew her off a little, so she went down again. Jelly and Sanaa went up onto the stage and started dancing crazily, all around the stage, for a long time. Upstage.

5) The major epic mess-up during Saumya, Rohini and Jin Ju's audition. Xing Xing went up and started playing something sad on the piano. Then an entire group of us (five to seven) all came up and messed it up e.g. going to mess up the piano playing (myself), and the rest of them all went to dance around on the stage. I have no idea what happened with that but it involved Jelly kneeling on the stage (?) and Saumya lying down and posing on the stage. We deliberately waited for their audition to plot this mass invasion. Rohini was apparently touched that we all went up for them. I thought I heard Saumya mutter "sabo" later. But they had time after to do their proper improv without us screwing around. And they dealt with the invasion very very well. Awesome.

6) Jelly went up as Sadako. I was hoping that group would do more with Sadako but frankly they didn't.

7) Diana and Jelly crept around doing weird things, including dancing around (I think), making ghost noises, echoing, creeping along the edge of the stage (Jelly) yelling, disco dancing to disco lights (En did the lights, of course, with Priya), etc. etc.

8) During one of the auditions they brought out two chairs. Jelly and I ran up later and grabbed the chairs.

9) The last one ended in some of us trying to start a gangfight but at least one of the auditioners was so violent we got driven back. Then we gave it up.

Most fun I've had during drama for a while. I really want to do it again. Really really.

This is what the Sec 4s of Drama 2010 are made of.

And this is what we are leaving behind.

--

And what are we leaving exactly? We were all impressed by many of you juniors, and pleasantly surprised by a fair lot of you.

Yet, I remain unsure of the Drama Society's future when we leave it.

Am I being possessive? Am I being paranoid?

Please, manage this CCA well and perform as well as you can when we are gone.

PHYSICS SUPERHERO PART II

Sunday, February 07, 2010 @ 8:53 pm.

Yeah, I'm... really bored.

I set aside my entire Saturday night to do zhou ji, assuming that I was writing a full-length compo. But I didn't. So I sat outside and started drawing this.

It looks quite terrible, especially when scanned. But...

I'm not sure why I did this either.

PHYSICS SUPERHERO

Friday, February 05, 2010 @ 5:37 pm.

I couldn't help myself.

I didn't actually draw this during Physics. I started it sometime during/after Elect., and then it spilled over to Physics and beyond.

The drawing is rather crapped up (the right arm looks like it's sticking out of the shirt and I will never get that retort stand right, etc. etc.) but I smiled several times while drawing this.

What it says (top to bottom, left to right)

THE ONE AND ONLY
PHYSICS SUPERHERO

SMOOTH SPLIT CORK PROVIDES NO MORE THAN THE NECESSARY FRICTION TO GRIP THE WIRE

EXTENDABLE CROCODILE-CLIP EXTRA-STRENGTH ELECTRICAL WIRE THAT CAN SUPPORT 5x10^3 KG.

MODIFIED COLLAPSIBLE RETORT STAND WITH PROPELLER ATTACHED FOR THIS SUPERHERO TO GET [TO] PLACES WITH LESS WORK DONE.

PHYSICS SUPERHERO USES HIS GENIUS-LEVEL KNOWLEDGE OF AERODYNAMICS TO STEER HIM ANYWHERE AT MAX. VELOCITY

ARMS TRAINED AND MODIFIED TO ACCESS MAXIMUM CAPABILITY OF MOMENTS

SUPER-ENDURANCE SLOTTED MASSES WITH GIANT MASS HANGER THAT ALSO DOUBLES AS AN EFFECTIVE BLUDGEONING WEAPON, DEALING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF FORCE

STREAMLINED HAIRSTYLE

TOTE BAG WHICH CONTAINS LAPTOP, DATALOGGERS AND PAPERS FOR HIS COVER AS A PHYSICS TEACHER

MIRRORED GLASSES TO CONFUSE OPPONENTS WITH REFLECTED LIGHTS AND TO CONCEAL IS IDENTITY

INDESTRUCTIBLE, STYLISH SHIRT

SCIENTIFIC, GRAPHICAL CALCULATOR WHICH [ALSO ACTS] AS A GPS, RADAR, ALARM CLOCK, MOBILE PHONE, AND GAME CONSOLE.

ULTRA-LARGE PENDULUM BOB WITH MAXIMUM G.P.E. TO K.E. EFFICIENCY

STOPWATCH DESIGNED TO NEGATE HUMAN REACTION TIME

UTILITY BELT TO KEEP HIS PANTS UP

EXTRA-GRIP SHOES

PENS TO DO HYPER-SPEED CALCULATION

EXTRA 6M OF WIRE

HEAVYWEIGHT SLOTTED MASS MADE OUT OF DENT-PROOF TITANIUM

Grammatical errors corrected in brackets, barring the fact that there actually isn't such word as "extendable"... just couldn't find one. Ah well.

--
For people who aren't in on this, on Monday Mr Liu left a note on our class' whiteboard, which ended off with "Your friendly neighbourhood Physics superhero".

It still hasn't been erased if you want to go see it (the class drew a DO NOT ERASE boundary around it). Ms Yang took advantage of this and wrote her Chem notices around that note so that people wouldn't erase it.

Physics Superhero needs a better name. Or does he?

What'cha say?

Monday, February 01, 2010 @ 10:54 pm.

Mmm, what'cha say,
Mmm, that you only meant well?
Well, of course you did.

Mmm, what'cha say,
Mm, that it's all for the best?
Of course it is.
